A day in the life of a Gordy's intern

Hello! My name is Jack Murphy and my hometown is Crystal Lake, Illinois. This summer I’ve taken on the role of being one of the marketing interns here at Gordy’s. I am currently going into my third year at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Technology. VCT involves four main parts with print, video, photo and web design along with pieces of marketing and graphic design.

Growing up I always have been told to find the job I love to do, day in and day out that allows me to enjoy every second of life. I have that exact feeling each day from the time I wake up to the time I go back to bed.  Gordy’s has allowed me to keep a creative mind and advance my skills within the marketing industry. Marketing comes along with building strong and lasting relationships with the customers, which I have experienced working here each day.

Can’t get much better than being the marketing intern right on Geneva lake at Gordy’s. A day in the life consists of picking up the camera and capturing lifestyle content for social media through photos and videos. The editing process is definitely my personal favorite part, piecing all the work together through illustrator, photoshop and premiere pro. Graphic design is one of my strong suits I have, so far, I’ve created Instagram highlight cover designs, ads for demo days and other creative designs for the social media. Going out on the lake occasionally before or after work to capture some great content wake surfing is always a great time, I even get a chance myself to surf!

My recent project was to create customer video testimonials, now I’ve always been a people person, I love to meet new people and grow relationships. Getting these videos was a very different task that I haven’t completed before in my life, which was a big step leading me to grow out of my comfort zone. It was a very enjoyable process being able to interact with new people, from many different locations learning about their experiences and memories here at Gordy’s.
