Fourth of July Re-Cap
Hi everyone, happy belated Fourth of July! I hope you all had a safe and fun weekend with your loved ones. This past weekend at Gordy’s was a blast! It was so amazing to see people spending the day on the lakefront together, whether they were on or off of the water.
The mornings were actually very calm here, and it was pretty much in the high 80’s to 90’s the entire day. Entertainer Kathy Fry played piano and sang right outside of the Boat House, handing out red, white, and blue beads for whoever walked by and she seemed to get everybody hyped for the day with how interactive and friendly she was. As the days went on the piers were not overly chaotic, but they were still steady and everyone that came in either for gas or to eat was extremely talkative and in high spirits.
Over the weekend we met a woman named Kate and her husband Matt, who both actually grew up in the area and have been coming to Gordy’s during 4th of July weekend for many years. They also are frequent visitors to the Boat House for family dinners. Kate stated, “Every time we come here our experience is wonderful. We’ve never had a complaint, and everyone is so nice and courteous and willing to help. When you have a view like this you can’t complain”.
My favorite part of the day was seeing people walk around in their festive 4th of July outfits, and I made sure to get photos of my favorite ones. One of the best ones was a t-shirt with George Washington’s face on it that said “Too cool for British rule”. One of our own employees even went as far as shaving one side of his hair into an American flag, and the other side into the Gordy’s G logo. Many families were also matching in our 4th of July Gordy shirts from the Pro Shop, and enjoyed getting their photo taken in our famous big chair.
On Sunday we also met a customer named Jean, who has been coming to Gordy’s ever since she was in high school. She stated that the big chair has actually been a part of some of her favorite memories over the years with her 3 girlfriends. “We actually captioned our photo, three little ladies and one big chair”, Jean said.
Overall, I’d say it was a pretty successful holiday weekend for everyone who ended up coming out to celebrate with us. I hope you all continue to have a Gordy-great week and I can’t wait to see everyone out and about on the lakefront soon!
