The spotty forecast was not enough to prevent an impressive line-up of events from happening, nor enough to staunch the flow of eager lake-goers visiting the Fontana shore. Gordy’s was hopping this weekend, both on the water and at the lakefront.

Gordy’s hosted Malibu’s Just Ride event this past Friday and Saturday. Just Ride gives prospective Malibu buyers the opportunity to cruise along on new models, this year’s being the brand new 2021 Malibu M220. Customers share in the boating experience with professional water sport athletes and Malibu factory experts. Riders got a front row seat learning how to captain the boat and watching pro wake surfers and boarders tackle some waves. They could even jump off the shiny new vessel to take a spin surfing behind it themselves.

Over at Big Foot Beach, the Splash Bash customer appreciation celebration made even more waves this past Saturday. Gordy’s customer appreciation event is held every year and promises a day of fun. Party-goers anchor their boats in the bay situated at the same end as downtown Lake Geneva for a full day of food, drinks, and activities.

Meanwhile, back at Fontana, an Axis boat was launched as early as 9 am, signifying the start of the day at the Marina. Malibu, Cobalt and Everglades continued launching throughout the day - all ready to brave the choppy conditions.

The road lining the lakefront is always closed on weekends due to launch boat and pedestrian traffic. This provided the perfect opportunity for little kids to zigzag back and forth on their Razor scooters, gliding from the Surf Shack to the Boat House to the Shore Shack and back again. Multiple dogs, from black labs to pugs, were spotted lapping up water from the red Gordy’s dog bowl and posing for pictures on the big chair with a Gordy’s “lake life bandana”. A young boy and girl came barreling out of the Pro Shop triumphantly, pulling on their new matching blue and red Gordy’s hoodies, while families behind them emerged keenly hauling new tiger, shark, and lime wedge floats towards the water.

More boats, stocked with Yeti coolers, stuffed beach bags, and sizable tubes, lined up to launch, while Gordy’s boat rental tent attracted an ongoing sphere of customers throughout the day.

By lunch time, Ben Janzow was strumming his guitar and singing a familiar tune with the refrain “Life is good today, life is good today” for an overflowing crowd at the Shore Shack. The Adirondack chairs flanking the Boat House were filled in no time by customers people-watching, enjoying the lake view, and taking advantage of “Sipping Saturdays”- deals on all you can drink mimosas and discounted Bloody Mary’s.

An energetic Little League baseball team took their post-game celebration to Gordy’s. Patrons satisfyingly burst forth from the Boat House with plastic carry-out containers half-filled with everything from calamari to quesadillas.

The sun set on the smell of the fryer, the sounds of ice clinking in Gordy’s cups, and the melding of music with the hubbub of the crowd- all signifying another awesome weekend at the lakefront.
