The Beginning

As surprising as it may sound, the first years of Malibu® were not as explosive as you would have expected. In their initial start, which was in 1982, the company was producing merely two boats a week. However, it did not take too long before boaters realized the quality and reliability these boats offered. Thereafter, the demand for these crafts increased rapidly, and by 1988 the company had a market share of 9%. The following year, in 1989, the company had become one of the largest boat manufacturers in California, manufacturing 1200 boats per year.

Expanding the Grounds

To keep up with high demand, and to improve coast distribution, the company opened a facility in Loudon, Tennessee, in 1992, which has remained its headquarters to this day. In that same year, Malibu® went through a major change, replacing their wooden construction with a Fiberglass Engine Chassis System. This eliminated vibration and noise within the drivetrain that enhanced every boater’s riding experience.
